Conference
  • Montreal, November 2018
  • ~330 attendees
  • 2 days, 2 venues
  • 12 workshops
  • 12 talks

For the 2018 conference in Montreal, I lead logistics, contributed regularly to communications across social media and email marketing, and managed teams of volunteers and service providers. It was a wonderful experience working with the board of Service Design Canada.

It was a priority to work with local suppliers to secure sustainably produced and socially conscious services. For example, the caterer Cuisine A’Tout, “promote the socio-occupational integration of adults with low education levels into the labor market”. With them, we offered package-free, locally made food and all of the delicious food was consumed or taken home by staff. With Petit-Mains, we commissioned conference totes made from reclaimed fabric by women in need who have gained skills through this great organization.

Industry Survey
  • 276 respondents from across Canada

The objective of the survey was to determine:

  • What is the general composition of the community (gender, region, salary, training/education etc.)?
  • What are the skills needed to practice Service Design professionally (practice areas and associated skills)?
  • What is size (in dollars) of a typical Service Design project?

Along with conference logistics, I co-created the first Service Design Canada Benchmark survey. I began by researching existing surveys and reports from various adjacent industries and, with the board, designed the final survey and distribution strategy. Survey analysis was done using excel. Key insights were announced at the IMPACT conference.
